Is Creationist Ray Comfort An Idiot Or A Liar?

At the MTV Video Music Awards last week, Miley Cyrus' dancing shocked millions of people. Her dance routine included something called twerking. It is a sexually suggestive move, with hips thrusting, low squatting, and wobbling and jiggling in an up-and-down motion. She was also wearing skin-tone latex "underwear" that feigned nudity. And we at FrogBook.com say, "So what?" C'mon, the woman is twenty years old. And her demographics (fans) have also grown up with her. Anyway, with the Internet, kids today are quite aware of sexuality whether Miley Cyrus twerks or not. What her critics are basically saying is that she should act like a kid forever. Nonsense.

And now, Creationist and evangelical preacher, Ray Comfort, comes out to basically call Miley Cyrus a prostitute. What an A-hole. Ray Comfort is not new to the Frog Blog. In 2009, we wrote about how he collaborated with actor Kirk Cameron to link Adolf Hitler to Charles Darwin! Read our article, “Creation Vs. Evolution: Darwin Defamed!” This man professes to know better than a lot of fields, including physics and evolutionary biology. But in fact, he only has a high school education and didn't even have any formal training in theology before he began preaching as a minister. The two words that best describe this fool is "ignorance" and "arrogance."

Ray Comfort's arguments are really stupid. Once he said that the banana is the atheist’s worst nightmare because only God can design such a perfect fruit. Later, he was told that the hybridized bananas we all know today in the supermarket have been domesticated for 5,000 to 8,000 years. The original bananas from which they came were hardly edible without cooking. He later retracted his banana statement. His general idea against science is a simplistic one: Things are complicated, so God must have created them. This concept brings forth the obfuscating term, "Intelligent Design."

But one can easily show that complicated things, such as a snowflake, can be created by something that is not intelligent or conscious, such as our atmosphere. Based on simple logic alone, without having to delve into biology or physics, one can shoot down Comfort's ludicrous assertions by using a simple mental experiment. Let’s assume that the universe and life forms were indeed created by some form of Intelligent Design; but how do we know that it wasn't Satan who did it all? Our world is full of suffering, evil, and violence. One can argue with the same line of "logic" used by Comfort that it could only be Satan who could have created our world.

On a more specific level, Comfort's main point of contention with evolutionary scientists is that there are no fossils of a transitional species such as a "Crocoduck" – a cross between a crocodile and a duck. So, based on this line of thinking, if there are no animals evolving into one another, then only God must have created all the different species. But animals do evolve, just not in such a dramatic way. Over millions of years, they evolve through both the slight variations in their offspring and through the more pronounced genetic mutations in their offspring. And these variations determine which offspring will survive and which will not in a particular environment, allowing the survivors to give birth to the next generation of offspring that may expand further on these unique genetic traits. Through natural selection, animals adapt better and better to their environment through each successive generation. ~ This type of image is misunderstood by many people.

We at FrogBook.com believe many long-held misconceptions about Evolution are partly caused by pictures like the one above. "Evolutionary Walk" pictures have been around for over 100 years; and people incorrectly infer from this type of image that one creature "morphs" into another due to Evolution (like in the case of the Crocoduck). No, they ALL have independently evolved from a common ancestor. Humans and chimps have a common ancestor, but we did not evolve from chimpanzees. Our ancestors might very well resembled modern chimpanzees in certain ways – but then again, they might not; evidence is beginning to emerge that shows our earliest ancestor as being not ape-like and was walking upright millions of years ago. Therefore, what Creationists call the Missing Link – a "transitional species" between humans and apes – may not exist at all, click here.

Now, back to Miley Cyrus. Ray Comfort has been presented with such a great preponderance of scientific evidence over so many years that even a moron would get it. Yet, he continues to preach his lies. Perhaps the Banana Man is not as stupid as we think (no one is this dumb). Perhaps HE'S the one who has prostituted himself in his quest to expand his ministry, his book sales, and his DVD sales. UPDATE: Miley Cyrus Blamed For Twerking Fire

(September 10, 2013) There is a YouTube Video published six days ago titled: "Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire!" And it received over 10 million hits. It shows a girl twerking and she ended up catching on fire. And it didn't take long for the media to blame Miley Cyrus, click here. But it was revealed on September 9th that it was all a hoax by Jimmy Kimmel. The original video is 37 seconds long. The entire unedited video is 56 seconds long.

UPDATE: Lion/Tiger Hybrid Breaks Guinness Record

(September 18, 2013) Hercules is no "Crocoduck" or some other transitional-species animal, as we mentioned earlier in this article ("'Cyrus Prostituted Herself': Creationist"), but this lion and tiger hybrid made it into the Guinness World Records as the world's biggest feline on September 17th. At 922 pounds and 131 inches long (almost 11 feet), Hercules is about 1.7 to 2.8 times the weight of an average male lion; it is also about 1.3 to 2.0 times the length of an average male lion. Relative to tigers, Hercules is even bigger.

For ligers, their fathers are always lions and their mothers are always tigresses. And according to scientists, the reason why ligers sometimes can be so much bigger than their parents is because of the different breeding strategies of lions and tigers. A lioness will mate with multiple partners and the males all try to pass on offspring that can outgrow their competitors in the womb. The lioness compensates for this by passing on a growth-inhibiting gene to her offspring as well. But a tigress will only mate with one male tiger and due to the lack of competition in the womb, the growth-inhibiting as well as growth-promoting genes do not exist.

In a liger, the growth-promoting genes may be present (from dad) while the growth-inhibiting genes are absent. So it follows that a tigon, an offspring of a tiger father and a lioness mother, may be smaller than its parents due to the possible presence of growth-inhibiting genes (from mom) and an absence of growth-promoting genes, click here.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Must Ban Giant Snakes


Unlike with wild mammals such as bears and cougars, there really is no misconception out in the public that reptiles such as pythons and alligators can be tamed or are safe. However, some ignorant people think that wild animals can be handled and kept with a half-ass attitude as long as they are being fed, that includes both wild mammals and reptiles. But in fact, such animals must always be handled with extreme caution and they really should be banned in areas in which many people reside. According to the Humane Society of the United States, the importation and inter-state transport of large constrictor snakes should be banned by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, click here.

~ What happens when careless idiots manage wild animals.

On August 5th, in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada, two boys aged four and six were asphyxiated and killed by a 100-pound African rock python. It had escaped from a pet shop beneath the unit in which the two boys were sleeping. The pet shop is called Reptile Ocean, and its owner is Jean-Claude Savoie. Savoie has received complaints before about his negligence in regard to Reptile Ocean. It appears that he might have done a lousy job of feeding and caring for the python and other animals as well as in keeping them secure. Experts have theorized that the boys were likely playing with animals in the store earlier in the day and the scent on the boys attracted the python during the night.

At any rate, it is illegal to own such an animal in the Province of New Brunswick. However, there are special permits for accredited zoos to keep prohibited exotic animals; Jean-Claude Savoie did not have a permit for this python, which was eventually destroyed as authorities needed to do tests in their investigation. In all, 27 animals that were illegally owned were removed from Reptile Ocean on August 9th. Four American alligators (one was pregnant) and four large snakes (not including the one that killed the boys) were destroyed as no accredited zoos were willing to take them. This shows that not only are humans at risk, but so are the innocent animals when people foolishly keep wild pets.

But people are already protesting, not over the senseless deaths of the boys, but over the shut-down of Reptile Ocean. This betrays a lack of priority and commonsense that often leads to such a tragedy. The situation is ludicrous, two beautiful boys were killed and some of the protesters claim it was a freak accident and the store should be kept open. Really? Nobody was responsible for securing the python or for making the proper repairs to the store? Let's not forget that it was ILLEGAL for the owner of Reptile Ocean to own this python in the first place. Jean-Claude Savoie may face criminal charges.


~ Idiots protest the closing of Reptile Ocean

If the protesters' own children were killed by the python, would they be as enthusiastic about keeping this store open? These people care more about their own amusement than the danger to the people who live near the store and the wild animals that suffer for being taken out of their natural environment. This reflects the thoughtless and selfish attitude of people who like to own exotic pets. Often, they get a degree of self-esteem for owning such animals when attention is focused on them from their friends and acquaintances. But the animals themselves are mostly locked up in tiny austere cages and tanks throughout their lives, often living all alone with years of improper care.

Steve Irwin the "Crocodile Hunter" made the nonchalant handling of dangerous reptiles famous in 2004 when he fed a crocodile while holding his one-month-old baby. Stupid stunts like this perpetuate the misconception that dangerous reptiles are predictable when they in fact are not. Irwin was rightly criticized for this thoughtless act. He himself was killed just two years later by a stingray while snorkeling at the Batt Reef. It was believed that he might have gotten too close to the stingray and it felt boxed-in and attacked. The video of the incident was destroyed at the request of Steve Irwin's family. He was just 44 years of age.

(September 21, 2013) Richard Parrinello, a Long Island animal-control officer living in Shirley, New York, had his housed raided yesterday by authorities who discovered 850 snakes in his two garages; they were estimated to be worth about half a million dollars. Two Burmese pythons, which are illegal in New York, were also found.

~ $500,000 worth of snakes found in garages.

Apparently, Mr. Parrinello was operating some sort of mail-order business on the side and was not reporting to work due to a disability claim. He faces charges for owning illegal animals as well as running a business out of his home without a permit. Just think of what could have happened if the 850 snakes had escaped into the neighborhood.

One must ask, did this preacher actually enrich the lives of his followers though wisdom or did he just endanger their lives along with his own? Getting people to believe in God through some damned-fool snake charmer's trick was not ethical. The truth should be the only god in our lives, and it came to claim Pastor Coots.

Should Such Callous Theme Parks Be Banned?

We at the Frog Blog highly recommend this documentary to our readers, not just for its thought-provoking message, but also because it is just a very well-made film. In the past, FrogBook.com has published a number of articles about the tragedy of animal exploitation and the dangers faced by the handlers of wild animals. Read our past articles: "Moron Lets Infant Play With A Gorilla" and "50 Exotic/Rare Animals Killed In Ohio."

Our position has always been that a "domesticated" or "tame" wild animal is an oxymoron. Wild animals such as killer whales can NEVER "connect" or empathize with humans like dogs can. It is impossible to "tame" a wild/exotic animal because to do so would require countless generations of selective breeding (it is believed that it took thousands of years for the dog to be domesticated, click here). And just because a wild animal is highly intelligent and can learn silly tricks to obtain treats or food, that does not mean it is tame like a domesticated dog is. Because wild animals can never accept a human as one of their own like dogs can, this poses a problem brought up by the film: When trained wild animals are under stress, they may attack and kill people that they have known all their lives.

~ Should killer whales be tourist attractions?

The need of wild animals to be wild and to roam free over very large distances has been HARDWIRED into their genes for millions of years; this can never be "trained" out of them by humans even if the cruel process spans their entire lifetimes.

And we now know that killer whales have a tight social structure in the wild, and the bond between a mother and her calf is extremely strong; they often live together for life in a group. So, tremendous distress is inflicted on both the mother and the calf whenever they are separated in a siege at sea, where the baby is taken away to a theme park.

While many performing killers whales nowadays were born in captivity, many other working whales still are from the wild and were once separated from their mothers at sea. And those calves born in captivity will eventually be separated from their mothers when they reach the age of four, which is also a source of much mental anguish. Such psychologically damaged creatures are then kept in confined spaces throughout their lives, forced to perform monotonous tricks for noisy crowds year in and year out. And later, when they themselves have offspring, further trauma is inflicted on them when they are separated from their own babies, which are sometimes taken to other theme parks.

So it should not be surprising that performing killer whales sometimes kill and maim their trainers out of frustration. SeaWorld's Tilikum was captured from the wild when he was just two years old in 1983, and he later killed three people. But as one of SeaWorld's most popular attractions, Tilikum is still forced to perform to this day.

~ Dolphins identify one another by name.

Killer whales are very smart animals, so their confinement for years and years in austere spaces that are tantamount to bathtubs for humans just compounds their psychological torment. We think this is the reason why killer whales in captivity tend to live shorter lives than those in the wild.

And in a recent report on their cousin, the dolphin, it has been shown that dolphins display great intelligence by assigning names to one another in their family unit in the wild. Similarly, when a pod of killer whales is being pursued by humans for their calves, they would devise ingenious ruses to confuse and divert the pursuers by separating the mothers and babies from the males who are the decoys, showing a sense of self-sacrifice and higher consciousness. So, it is really a shame that such majestic and intelligent creatures are treated in such a horrible way.

As responsible people, we should set an example to others and our children by avoiding theme parks that exploit wild animals for profit. Educate others and your children on why you've taken this position. SeaWorld, MarineLand, and others are a throwback to an archaic past, when animals were abused for our amusement in circuses and rodeos. Instead, observe killer whales in their natural environment. Money poured into enterprises such as whale-watching tours and cruises will help protect the killer whale's habitat.

(March 8, 2014) In part due to the film Blackfish, the "Orca Welfare and Safety Act" is to be introduced by State Assemblymember Richard Bloom in the California legislature. This bill would not ban the captivity of killer whales, but would prohibit the use of orcas for entertainment purposes. This is a good beginning, because that would significantly reduce the usefulness of the whales to the theme parks, thereby reducing the number orcas to be kept. However, an outright ban would have been better.

SOLAR FLARES TO PEAK IN 2013 – DISASTER?

Experts Say Millions Might Lose Power For Years!

~ 11-year cycle points to 2013 as a peak year for solar flares.

Scientists say we are due for a giant solar storm this year. And in an article published on July 17th in the Washington Post, it was reported that Lloyd’s of London (the world's oldest insurance market) is concerned about the massive damage that solar flares could inflict on the global technology infrastructure, perhaps causing as much as 2.6 trillion dollars in losses. Worse than that, besides our GPS devices and cellphones not working, our electric power grids could go kaput for 20 to 40 million people on the Eastern Seaboard alone – possibly for years!! ~ Discovery Channel: The consequences of a perfect solar storm.

Of course, just because 2013 is a peak year doesn't mean a great disaster must occur this year; the odds are against it, but expect some disruptions in 2013. However, this does not mean a great disturbance of our civilization will not occur; scientists believe it is a matter of time, perhaps in our lifetime (some experts predict within the next 20 years). As opposed to the pre-industrial era, modern civilization is now so dependent on electricity and technology that our survival may be in jeopardy if we are suddenly deprived of them. So the issue for our planet is not whether solar-storm disasters will occur or not, but are we prepared for them?

~ NASA urges preparedness.

So, what can governments do to protect us from solar storms so violent that it could disrupt our civilization? The most vulnerable part of our power system are the transformers that are connected to the power lines all over North America. They can be damaged by current surges during a geomagnetic solar storm and it can take anywhere from days to years to repair them. One answer is to shut down our power grids when a giant solar flare occurs: "controlled blackouts." National energy grids that are not operational can escape the bombardment of X-rays and UV radiation from our Sun during a solar storm. However, satellites that run our cellphones, GPS devices, satellites TV broadcasts, and others will be affected regardless.

Officials in the United states and Great Britain are already implementing this strategy in the event of a giant solar flare. As citizens, we must be cognizant of the dangers of solar flares as well as of what the national and local government protocols are in the event of a giant solar flare. Then we must plan for the disruption of power and other technological services in our lives.

BLUEFIN TUNA SOLD FOR $1.7 MILLION!

Longline Fishing Is Wiping Out The Bluefin Tuna

Early last year, we wrote an article titled: "Bluefin Tuna Sold For A Record $736,000." Well, they're at it again!

~ This bogus price will only cause more fishing of the bluefin.

In a Huffington Post article published yesterday, the plight of the bluefin tuna is discussed, click here. Basically, bluefin tuna populations are falling all over the world, with three species of bluefins facing extinction. And this disaster has caused the price of the bluefin to go way up – with an all-time record set earlier this year in Tokyo at $1.7 million for a 489 lb. fish. However, this auction smells fishy and might be just a publicity stunt to capitalize on the publicity and controversy surrounding the plight of the bluefin. C'mon, who can make a profit on a $1.7 million fish?

~ World Wildlife Fund: A ban is needed.

The problem is, this stunt puts further pressures on the embattled bluefin as armies of fishermen will now rush out in their boats to try to catch even more of this precious fish to make a fortune. As a result, over-fishing and illegal fishing are inevitable. The "blue-gold rush" is on and the strict quotas already placed on the bluefin by many nations are sure to be violated. In the Huffington Post article, a method of fishing called pelagic longline fishing is brought up. This and other methods such as drift-netting and the use of fish aggregating devices (FADs) are decimating the bluefin, which has dropped in numbers by over 70% in just three decades in the Atlantic.

Longline fishing is used all over the world to catch all kinds of fish; and it is literally a curtain of death and devastation. There is a main line that can stretch for over 40 miles, and attached to it along its entire length are thousands of shorter branch lines with baited hooks – trapping any creature that comes across it whether it is the intended target or not; they include turtles, sharks, dolphins, and sea birds. They are called the "accidental bycatch"; and one of the unintended victims of longline fishing is the strictly quota-ed bluefin as fishermen try to catch other more plentiful species such as the swordfish and the yellowfin tuna. The bycatch, whether they be sharks, turtles, or bluefins, would be thrown back into the ocean – injured or dead. But it should not be surprising if some of the prized bluefins also end up on the black market.

Longline fishing and other callous methods of fishing, along with illegal fishing, may push the bluefin tuna to extinction in the decades to come. As responsible people, we should stop buying bluefin tuna products and other fish products caught with unethical methods. And as with the shark fin, many jurisdictions can enact laws to outlaw the sale of bluefin products, click here. However, many attempts to do so have been met with opposition. But this strategy, along with ethical consumer decisions, would go a long way in protecting this magnificent species from going into the abyss. Educate others and your children about the bluefin and explain to them why other types of fish, caught with responsible fishing methods, are just as nutritious.

FILM: THE UNBELIEVERS ATTACKS RELIGION!

Atheists Richard Dawkins & Lawrence Krauss Team Up

On Monday, April 29th, the documentary The Unbelievers premiered in Toronto, Canada, with sold-out shows. Prof. Richard Dawkins (evolutionary biologist) and Prof. Lawrence Krauss (theoretical physicist) have worked the debating circuit together for years to defend the forces of reason and truth against the forces of ignorance and superstition, but this film will perhaps reach beyond their usual hunting ground of the university lecture halls. As far as Frogbook.com can gather, their main message (among other ideas) is a bold and controversial one: religion is nonsense and it should be eradicated.

We at the Frog Blog have vigorously (and sometimes viciously) attacked those religious firebrands who promote erroneous ideas in the name of religion (like Creationism and the Apocalypse). But their ignorant actions are by no means a reflection of all religions in general; many credible religious authorities around the world also believe in scientific ideas such as Evolution, the Big Bang Theory, and other truths.

Hardly a voice of moderation, Pat Robertson of the 700 Club once suggested that Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez should be assassinated; and even he thinks that the Earth cannot possibly be only 6,000 years old! Once religion crosses a line to enter the realm of delusion and then goes on to challenge long established scientific wisdom, then that's when society starts to break down as truth, knowledge, logic, and justice go out the window. What you end up with is blind theocracy.

FrogBook.com has said before that religious stories, such as the myths and fables in the Bible, are useful tools to relay certain allegorical messages and morals to the people. And many religious authorities know this. It is however a big mistake for some renegades to teach Bible fantasy as literal truth. That's just wrong. Have you ever noticed that after the advent of the tape-recorder, the camera, and the video, ALL supernatural phenomena such as the rising of the dead and floating angels have suddenly disappeared off the face of our planet?

If religion wants to survive, it must purge those idiots who pursue the literal interpretations of the scriptures (they are fooling no one but simpletons) and start to make their ideas more sophisticated and relevant. Then they should integrate these concepts into a modern, complex, and scientific world. As Prof. Krauss has said, religion is already in its death throes in the West. By stubbornly clinging on to rubbish (such as the idea that all the different species of dinosaurs that had ever lived were once inside Noah's ark) religion as a whole will only die in the long run all over the world.

While FrogBook does not attack religion but only those imbeciles who insult people's intelligence in the name of religion, we however are not criticizing Dawkins' and Krauss' attempt to attack religion as a whole head on. As Dr. Krauss has said, it is not wrong to question or to ridicule ideas. In fact, scholars and scientists have done just that to one another's ideas for hundreds of years. This is how we create this wonderful thing called SCIENCE!

IKEA & Bieber Monkeys Should Be With Their Own Kind

There was a time when Justin Bieber seemed like such a level-headed kid who did not let his fame affect him. Now, he's behaving like a real jerk. He is accused of a string of misconduct, and the latest one concerns allegations that Bieber uttered threats of violence and spat on his Los Angeles neighbor on March 26th. Allegedly, Bieber was driving around the neighborhood in the morning (around 8:00 AM) in his new Ferrarri – at 100 miles per hour! And the noise forced his neighbor to confront Bieber. It is believed that his neighbor will press charges and Bieber may be prosecuted. And if he was indeed driving around a residential street at very high speed, he could have been in a lot more trouble if he had hurt or killed one of the neighborhood children playing in the street. What a moron.

[Updated Insert – June 2, 2013: Now, there appears to be an inconsistency with the Bieber speeding controversy. Rapper, Tyler The Creator, claims he was the driver on that day, not Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber's idiotic antics now has touched on the issue of animal welfare. In March, Bieber tried to turn his pet monkey, Mally, into a jet-setter and the animal was seized and quarantined at Munich, Germany, by the airport authorities. Apparently, Bieber didn't know that he needed paperwork to transport an animal (that might be carrying diseases) from one country to the next. However, Mally may be in luck. German custom officials have given Justin until the end of April to produce the proper documentation. If not, Mally will be placed in a proper facility for monkeys. That’s exactly what Mally needs and we at FrogBook.com hope Bieber will abandon the animal. But Justin may face smuggling charges and a fine of over $15,000.

Mally was taken away from his mother at nine to ten weeks old, and according to experts, that's too early. A protected species, capuchin monkeys are highly social animals that need to be with their own kind. To keep Mally alone in the house, especially at such a young age, will cause much mental distress to the animal. And according to Debbie Leahy of the Humane Society of the United States, ALL primates species are too wild to be kept as pets. Also, monkeys can become very aggressive, especially after sexual maturity. Often, after a monkey has destroyed everything in the house, it is kept in a cramped cage permanently by its owner, causing the animal much suffering. Calling Justin Bieber irresponsible, Ms. Leahy fears that he may have set a bad example for his millions of fans, who may now think it's fashionable, ethical, and safe to keep wild animals as pets. To the contrary, it is both selfish and thoughtless to keep wild animals in captivity. But sadly, this is a popular trend nowadays.

Case in point, the IKEA monkey. In December of 2012, in Toronto, Canada, a monkey wearing a winter coat and diapers escaped from a parked car at an IKEA parking lot and the whole world was enthralled. Since then, the animal (Darwin) has been taken away from his owner and is now at the center of a legal battle. The owner of the famed monkey, Yasmin Nakhuda, has been accused of strangling and hitting Darwin. Nakhuda has denied the allegations, but even she has admitted that Darwin can sometimes be quite uncontrollable, click here.

People like Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson are/were constantly surrounded by parasites who pass themselves off as friends. After a while, stars find solace with "human-like" animals like monkeys and chimps instead of real people. And our Ms. Nakhuda has substituted Darwin for her own son. However, we must always remember that wild animals can never reciprocate their owners' misplaced “love.” Petting and hugging a creature you have taken out of its natural environment is not love. It's abuse because the animals is suffering due to loneliness, a lack of space, and improper care.

Even though primates are more closely related to humans than domesticated dogs – and are more intelligent, they actually do not "connect" or empathize with humans as well as dogs and they NEVER will. Unlike dogs that have been selectively bred for thousands of years for this particular trait, wild animals can never be changed to "love" humans. UPDATE: Justin Bieber Abandons His Monkey!

(May 15, 2013) Justin Bieber's lawyers have indicated that the Bieb will not file the proper paperwork required by the deadline (Friday, May 17th) to reclaim his pet monkey, Mally. Animal rights groups are delighted and have praised Bieber for his decision. Now, Mally will finally leave the shelter and be placed with his own kind in a permanent home, likely a zoo, click here.

UPDATE: Owner Loses Custody Of IKEA Monkey

(September 13, 2013) Monkey "mommy" Yasmin Nakhuda has lost custody of Darwin the monkey, a.k.a. the IKEA monkey, click here. A Toronto, Ontario judge has dismissed Nakhuda's lawsuit because she signed a Toronto Animal Services form that transferred ownership of the monkey to the City of Toronto on December 9th, 2012, when Darwin escaped from Nakuda's car at an IKEA parking lot. At any rate, it is illegal to own a Japanese macaque in the City of Toronto.

It is very important to note that Judge Mary Vallee has ruled that Darwin is NOT a domesticated animal as Nakhuda claims, but instead is a wild animal; and once Nakhuda lost control of the animal, she also lost ownership of it. The judge based her ruling on a law about a hundred years old which states that a wild animal ceases to be owned once it escapes. This makes sense, since back in the day, one hunter could not prohibit other hunters from catching a roaming wild animal simply because he had supposedly owned it once. Now, Darwin will be staying at the Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary with his own kind, and he will not have to wear all those idiotic and uncomfortable clothes, diapers, and leashes.

[Updated Insert – October 12, 2013: It should not be surprising that Yasmin Nakhuda has now filed an appeal with the Ontario Court of Appeal to get Darwin back, click here. Selfish people like her don't care about tying up an already overburdened legal system with nonsense. If she had any kind of empathy, she should know that Darwin would be miserable throughout his entire life without the companionship of his own kind. While it is illegal to keep a monkey in the City of Toronto, there are no clear laws in this regard in the Province of Ontario. And Ms. Nakhuda has promised to move to another municipality that permits exotic pets if she gets Darwin back. So, it is difficult to know whether her appeal will succeed or not. KEYSTONE PIPELINE WOULD BE A DISASTER

Obama To Approve Pipeline After His Election Win?

~ Keystone XL pipeline means really dirty and corrosive oil.

The venerable Sierra Club is considered one of the oldest, largest, and most level-headed conservation organizations in the United States. For the first time in its over 120-year history, it has ended its prohibition against civil disobedience over the dreaded Keystone XL pipeline – the project is that bad in the eyes of the environmentalists. As a result, actress Daryl Hannah, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune – among many other famous and influential people – were all arrested for protesting at the White House last month.

Their fear is that after President Obama’s victory in the 2012 election – and not having to run again in 2016 – he may approve this project before the end of Spring. With turmoil spreading in the Middle East, Obama may want to secure a more stable supply of energy for the American economy from Canada. Also, with sequestration now a reality in the U.S., the president may very well fear that the huge across-the-board cuts in government spending will result in massive unemployment and an economic downturn, and this project is expected to create thousands of jobs in the U.S. However, according to the Sierra Club, this project is a bad deal for the people of United States while benefiting only Big Oil.

~ The Sierra Club explains this deal.

But the Canadian people also have paid a heavy price for extracting tar sands to benefit Big Oil. The damage that has been done to the Province of Alberta in terms of its environment is of such a monumental and terrifying scale that it likely has no parallel anywhere else in the world. In fact, Prime Minister Harper of Canada once boasted that this project is the biggest in human history, dwarfing the Great Wall of China. It is believed that Canada has the second largest oil reserve in the world, only behind Saudi Arabia.

Canada is now the largest source of oil to the U.S. The problem is, some of this "oil" (really a thick gooey tar called asphalt or bitumen) is mixed with sand, silt, and water; and it takes a lot of energy and toxic chemicals to squeeze asphalt out of millions of tons of muck (comprised of 80% sand, 5% water, and 10% bitumen). After the extraction process, tons of toxic sludge called tailings would remain to form countless poison ponds and lakes.

Experts believe the building of the Keystone XL pipeline would arm the tar sands project with the demand and capital it needs to fulfil its fullest, most horrific, potential; a fourfold increase of this monster is expected in the next twenty years. As a result, the environmental damage could grow to the point of no return for our planet. According to NASA climate scientist James Hansen, it's essentially "game over" for reversing Climate Change if the Keystone XL pipeline is approved (incidentally, he was also arrested for protesting at the White House in February).

~ How tar sands damage the environment.

Keystone proponents argue that the tar sands in Canada would have been developed whether the pipelines in the U.S. were built or not. They point out that the result would have been the same on Climate Change regardless, so why not create jobs for Americans? Frogbook.com's opinion is that there are not enough refineries in Canada to process the tar sands into synthetic crude oil before it can be shipped in gigantic amounts to China and elsewhere from the Canadian harbors. Therefore, Big Oil cannot fully develop the Albertan oil sands without the Keystone XL pipelines as vital conduits to the mighty American refineries. From there, this "dirty oil" would be shipped all over the Earth. That’s the KEY (no pun intended) for this abomination. It is expected that the Keystone XL pipeline would carry about 830,000 barrels of oil per day to the U.S. Gulf Coast refineries.

[Updated Insert – November 6, 2015: President Obama has denied a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline project (see video below. This should not be a big surprise as he vetoed a bill from Congress in February (read the article from Reuters: "Obama Vetoes Keystone XL Pipeline, Leaving It In Limbo"). We at the Frog Blog are glad to be wrong about President Obama. However, besides Obama's concern for the environment, the two other unexpected factors that might have influenced his decision are: 1) the surprising increase in local shale oil and gas production, making Canadian oil less desirable, and 2) the sudden drop in the world price of oil (around $50 per barrel) makes tar sands oil (produced at around $75 per barrel) untenable.
